DOOLIN FERRY

Cliffs of Moher Express (NB111) is a 32.21-metre marine grade aluminium high-speed passenger vessel built by Nova Shipyard for The Doolin Ferry Co. Designed by Mer et Design, she carries 300 passengers at up to 23 knots along Ireland's Wild Atlantic Way.

The largest and most advanced vessel ever to operate from Doolin, she is already in active service, operating scheduled crossings between Doolin Harbour and the Aran Islands, sightseeing excursions around her namesake cliffs, and high-frequency tourist shuttle services.

A demanding triple role requiring strong seakeeping, rapid passenger handling, and high reliability. Built under Irish flag with Bureau Veritas classification, in full compliance with EU Directive 2009/45 Category B regulations.

Passenger
Comfort

Twin Baudouin 16M33.3 engines, ZF 5055A gearboxes and CJR fixed-pitch Class S propellers with optimised blade geometry deliver extremely low vibration and reduced noise throughout. Matched with Humphree stabilizer and interceptor systems, the combined setup ensures a quiet, smooth and stable ride at a cruising speed of 18 knots. A retractable canopy on the upper deck maximises viewing angles around the cliffs in all weather conditions. Onboard amenities include full Wi-Fi coverage, premium sound system, climate control, bar and snack shop, and barrier-free passenger access with a dedicated disabled lift.

Yacht Standard

Yacht-standard finish, built for the sea

The vessel's exterior features a full yacht-standard fairing and painting system executed with AkzoNobel products, exceptionally rare at this scale for a commercial passenger ferry. The result is a surface quality and long-term durability more commonly associated with superyachts, delivered within a heavy-duty commercial structure.

Navigation & Safety

Full situational awareness, around the clock

The wheelhouse is equipped with a full Furuno electronics package, radar, GPS, AIS, depth sounder, and displays, providing complete situational awareness on coastal and open-water operations.

CCTV cameras monitor all onboard areas, while integrated alarm and monitoring systems cover the machinery spaces, solar panels, and battery pack. Category B-compliant lifesaving appliances and firefighting equipment are fitted throughout.

Sustainability

 Clean propulsion, lower footprint

Advanced battery technologies enable quiet, emission-free electric operation in harbours and environmentally sensitive areas. Roof-mounted solar panels charge the onboard battery bank and support hotel loads, reducing fuel consumption.
A selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system ensures compliance with IMO Tier III emissions standards for NOx reduction.
